Here you will learn how to get people to visit your website for free by aiming/finding target audiences with search engine optimized webpages.
If you note, part of this website is dedicated to "basketball shoes". But what exactly is my target audience? Is it just simply:
As you can see, I can take the subject of "basketball shoes" in many different directions (different target audiences). The point is you have to aim on finding a specific target audience at a time and develop search engine optimized (seo) webpage(s) tailored for that target audience.
For instance, there are hundreds of different people from different countries that like basketball shoes. Within those people there may be:
Do you see where I am getting at with this? Finding target audience is critical and if you do it right by developing appropriate content on SEO webpages, you will attract those who are really interested in that webpage information; hence, improving the chances of them engaging with your content and converting to whatever it is that you want them to do in your website (like purchasing a cool pair of basketball shoes or subscribing to your mailing list).
But don't ever think that I have digged enough yet on finding my target audience for my basketball shoes section of this website. There still is those interested in basketball shoes that:
I think that by now, you understand where I am getting at. As a matter of fact, finding your target audience with SEO (search engine optimized) webpages comes with a rule of thumb that every marketer would agree to; whereas, it includes breaking down each target market further into small bits called segments.
For example, here is a quick chart I have put together of possible segments you could break each and every single one of the above subjects about basketball shoes...
1. Geographic Segmentation
Depending on what you want your SEO (search engine optimized) page to be about, here in this geographic segmentation, you will want to find your target audience according to "where they live" such as what country, what state, and even narrow it down all the way to what neighborhood they reside.
For simplicity's sake, let us take the target audience of "people interested on what to wear with basketball shoes". You could break these people into the following three (3) narrower target audiences before deciding on what you want your SEO (search engine optimized) webpage to be about:
Geographic Option 1
Target Audience |
People interested on what to wear with basketball shoes that are located at... |
Location |
Top 10 basketball countries in the world: U.S.A, Spain, Australia, Argentina, Serbia, France, Greece, Lithuania, Czech Republic, Brazil |
Geographic Option 2
Target Audience |
People interested on what to wear with basketball shoes that are located at... |
Location |
Top 5 basketball countries in the world: U.S.A, Spain, Australia, Argentina, Serbia |
Geographic Option 3
Target Audience |
People interested on what to wear with basketball shoes that are located at... |
Location |
#1 basketball country in the world |
** IMPORTANT NOTE **
Although I have chosen the Top 10 basketball countries in the world to find my target market, I can go beyond that. Remember, that this is a test. You do what is in the best interest of your business.
For example, if you already have a website, and your website statistics already tell you that people are visiting your website from such and such countries. Later you find out that those countries are not necessarily from the Top 10 basketball countries, then you should definitely use those countries as a Geographic Segment.
You might as well find out that a target market for a particular country where you already have people coming to your website will actually be the most profitable for you (meaning those people will be your best buyers). You never know, and that is why testing is the name of the game here, and such it is for any business.
I use the SBI Tool which gives me traffic stats as best as any tool can give out there for me to go out and find the best target audiences before I build any search engine optimized webpages. Inside my traffic stats I can see:
HINT: I have people visiting my website from Russia, Germany, Thailand, Zambia, Portugal etc, which are not at all the top countries in the world about basketball. However there are probably basketball fanatics out there that might like the content of this website which may be or not about basketball shoes but rather other subjects that I cover on this website.
What this means to you is that once again testing is the name of the game!
Every business, every website is unique in its own way. There may be other websites out there that are different than mine, but they are profitable in their own way.
As previously mentioned, my website doesn't just focus on basketball shoes, but rather other specific topics as well. Some websites may be entirely dedicated to basketball shoes, tennis shoes, running shoes, khaki pants or whatever.
2. Demographic Segmentation
Digging in deeper into finding a target audience for your SEO (search engine optimized) webpage, we now focus on the demographics such as age, gender, income, education etc. Let us follow the same procedure as above and break it down into three (3) narrower target audiences for this SEO webpage:
Demographic Option 1
Target Audience |
People interested on what to wear with basketball shoes that congregate to... |
Demographic |
Females between ages of 21-29 who ae in university or finished university and earn income above $4000 per month |
Demographic Option 2
Target Audience |
People interested on what to wear with basketball shoes that congregate to... |
Demographic |
Males between ages of 21-29 who are in university or finished university and earn income above $4000 per month |
Demographic Option 3
Target Audience |
People interested on what to wear with basketball shoes that congregate to... |
Demographic |
Females and males between ages of 29- who finished university and earn income above $6000 per month |
3. Psychographic Segmentation
Moving right along on finding a target audience for your SEO (search engine optimized) webpage, in this section we focus on the psyche of the audience such as their opinions, values, pain points, emotions, why they buy things, etc.
It is your job to find out what motivates your audience to buy what you have to offer, so anything you find out about their psyche that will give you a clue should be used.
Let us follow the same procedure as the above ones to break it down into three (3) narrower target audiences for this SEO webpage:
Psychographic Option 1
Target Audience |
People interested on what to wear with basketball shoes that are motivated by... |
Psychographic |
only getting the most expensive outfits since he/she only purchases the most expensive basketball shoes. Anything less, this group of people will feel that people may look them down on the street due to their status of living. |
Psychographic Option 2
Target Audience |
People interested on what to wear with basketball shoes that are motivated by... |
Psychographic |
only getting black and blue jeans because (besides the sports clothing) those are the only types of trousers they would wear basketball shoes. |
Psychographic Option 3
Target Audience |
People interested on what to wear with basketball shoes that are motivated by... |
Psychographic |
only getting the outfits that best goes with the basketball shoes he//she has and likes to buy. What is most important for this this group of people is that the combination of the outfits and basketball shoes are not giving them a bad look. |
4. Behavioral Segmentation
Whenever people visit your website, you should track their behavior. Which webpages did they visit? From which webpages did they enter your website? From which webpages did they exit your website? What kind of comments are your visitors entering your website? Are many of them asking for something that you don't provide? Analyze all that and see how you can profit from it.
What percentage of your visitors actually bought your products, and the ones that didn't buy your products, why didn't they buy? You need to find out!
If you don't find out, you will be leaving money on the table. Their reason for not buying may just be because they had trouble filling up a form or something.
Is there a way to go back after those visitors that visited your website and didn't buy anything the first time or didn't subscribe to your mailing list? Well, let me tell you that yes there is a way to go back after every single person that visited your website. But those are things we only discuss in the Forums of the members area of the SBI Tool.
Let us follow the same procedure as the above ones to break it down into three (3) narrower target audiences for this SEO webpage (but once again keep in mind that these are just examples, and it is your job to find out how many sample tests you need to run to find out which type of user behaviors are giving you more information as to what it is that you need to do on your website to increase your business income:
Behavioral Option 1
Target Audience |
People interested on what to wear with basketball shoes that normally have a behavior of... |
Behavioral |
buying a lot of new clothing and shoes for their spouses during special date events (i.e Valentine's Day, Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve, etc. etc.) |
Behavioral Option 2
Target Audience |
People interested on what to wear with basketball shoes that normally have a behavior of... |
Behavioral |
of frequently buying new stuff online every 3 months or so. |
Behavioral Option 3
Target Audience |
People interested on what to wear with basketball shoes that normally have a behavior of... |
Behavioral |
reading content on my webpages specific not just about what to wear with basketball shoes but also posts comments on website about other related subjects to basketball shoes such as comfort basketball shoes, best cushioned basketball shoes, girls and boys basketball shoes. |
Based on the above four (4) segmentation methods, what you will want to do now is combine each option 1 segments together to form a particular subject for a specific search engine optimized webpage in your website. Let us see:
My target audience that I found is still "people interested on what to wear with basketball shoes". Let's see what happens when I line it u with all options 1 from all segments:
People interested on what to wear with basketball shoes
Geographic Option 1
Location |
Top 10 basketball countries in the world: U.S.A, Spain, Australia, Argentina, Serbia, France, Greece, Lithuania, Czech Republic, Brazil |
Demographic Option 1
Demographic |
Females between ages of 21-29 who ae in university or finished university and earn income above $4000 per month |
Psychographic Option 1
Psychographic |
only getting the most expensive outfits since he/she only purchases the most expensive basketball shoes. Anything less, this group of people will feel that people may look them down on the street due to their status of living. |
Behavioral Option 1
Behavioral |
buying a lot of new clothing and shoes for their spouses during special date events (i.e Valentine's Day, Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve, etc. etc.) |
Final Words
Just out of these Options 1 from the Geographic, Demographic, Psychographic, and Behavioral methods of segmentations, you can come out with several super profitable target audiences where you can write search engine optimized webpages to acquire all those people online searching for that information. Just out of these study performed, you can come up with keywords to research such as:
I hope you are starting to see the power of segmentation. Obviously, you will not know which one of these will build for a good seo webpage that brings evident traffic to your website.
For whatever target market you are in, after you have come up with several keywords like this, you should use the Brainstorm It Tool from SBI. What will it do for you? Well for starters you will be able to research all of the keywords you come up, and analyze each of them to tell you which ones are worth building a SEO webpage or not. It will tell you how many people on the internet search for similar stuff every day. It will tell you if there are a few or too many sites already offering such information. If you decide to build a webpage for a particular keyword, it will also tell you your profitability expectancy.
Seriously, I cannot recommend it enough. It is the system I use, and it is solely responsible for the creation and maintenance of this website.
